Who is Roki?

RokiRoad Beach Challenge

Roki Mills is our young son who was born with a severe brain injury to the mid brain after suffering lack of oxygen for 40minutes prior to his birth. The circumstances surrounding his birth led to a very Rocky start to life for him and so, we called him Roki.

Roki’s diagnosis from the start was Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. He is non verbal (although he puts ideas in our heads!) and suffers painful spasms and seizures.

From the start we were determined to try and fix him as best we can. When he was three months old we put up posters and banners all over the Northern Beaches saying Please Help Roki. The community responded overwhelmingly and helped us to raise enough money to take Roki to India for stem cell theraphy three times in the first three years of his life.

Curently we do an intensive home treatment program with the help of a group of volunteers, called ABR Therapy. It targets fascia and we have seen amazing results to his structure since doing this.

Roki looks incredibly well, he has not needed to be hospitalised for four years, he will turn five soon and has not had any surgeries. We have taught him to read and he is learning to communicate with his eyes by using a screen the calibrates his eye movements.

We continue to learn so much from Roki and our goal is one day to pass this information onto other families and provide support to enable families to follow alternative therapies.

There is no rule book for brain injured children, every day is a guessing game and we feel that we are giving it our all to give Roki what is best for him. His story has travelled wide and far. He inspires many. We feel his life story will help many others in days to come. The journey is hard, but not without joy.

We thank you for supporting out boy, Roki stands tall on the shoulders of the community.
